Farm Tour Ride August 22nd:
Its farm tour and poker ride time again! One of Ocean State's favorite events celebrates its 5th year. The ride begins in Warwick between 9-11 AM. The tour visits three farms before making its way back to the Exeter store for food, music, and prizes for the best poker hand. This year's farms include:
Palazzi has been a regular stop on our farm tour. They have 75 acres of preserved Farmland on one of the highest hills in Eastern CT. From their hilltop they can see RI, CT, MA, and on a good clear day the crown of MT. Monadnock in NH! They also have a 200 year old Charter Oak tree and a Revolutionary Era Cemetary.
Ekonk Hill is the largest grower of free range turkeys in Connecticut. Their farm store in Sterling stocks a large supply of organic, locally grown farm items from meats and ice cream to maple syrup. They grow everything that you have on your Thanksgiving table right there on the farm.
Creamery Brook Bison was established as a buffalo farm in 1990. Buffalo meat has been described as the "original health food." With fewer calories and less cholesterol than beef, chicken and turkey, it is certainly a healthy red meat.
There are absolutely no hormones and no antibiotics fed to their animals, only corn and grass. The animals are allowed to roam in pastures where they can be watched and enjoyed by the public. Samples will be available on the farm tour ride.

American Motorcyclists Association

It seems that freedom in America is more in jeopardy every day. As motorcyclists we need to stick together to protect our privilege to ride. One of the best ways to accomplish this is to join the American Motorcyclists Association (AMA).
"Since 1924, the AMA has protected the future of motorcycling and promoted the motorcycle lifestyle. AMA members come from all walks of life, and they navigate many different routes on their journey to the same destination: freedom on two wheels. As the world's largest motorcycling organization, the AMA advocates for motorcyclists' interests in the halls of local, state and federal government, the committees of international governing organizations, and the court of public opinion." -AMA Website-
The AMA is also an excellent source for motorcyclist training and safety programs. The magazine "American Motorcyclist" continues to be source of inspiration and education for both the riding and non-riding public.

Employee Profile: Steve Tomczak

Steve had worked for Artistic Laces across the street from the Warwick store for 35 years. Russ knew Steve and offered him a job at OSHD when things got tight at the lace plant. He has now been with OSHD for over 5 years. Currently, he works in Sales and as the Chrome Consultant, helping people accessorize their motorcycles. Steve got his motorcycle license in 1972 and has been riding ever since. His first Harley was a 1969 Sportster® that he wishes he had never sold. Steve sold his most recent bike, a 2005 Road King® last year.
Now Steve is on the prowl for something new. He gets plenty of time in the saddle doing test rides and moving bikes from the warehouse to the showroom. He has ridden them all and has become very knowledgeable regarding the characteristics of each bike.
In pursuit of knowledge, Steve has been to Orlando, Pheonix, and Milwaukee to attend Harley-Davidson® University. A visit to the manufacturing facility in Milwaukee was one of the highlights of Steve's training adventures.
Steve's wife Barbara, works at Ocean State's Exeter store, proving that married people can work for the same company and remain happy couples!
Steve has been riding for over 37 years and finds his days at OSHD to be fun and rewarding surrounded by motorcycles and great people. "The people at OSHD are wonderful to work for and with, it's a real family here". Even after a long day at the shop, Steve still seemed content. When asked how it was going, he smiled and said: "After 35 years in the factory, now working in a Harley® shop, not bad,...not bad at all." |
